Tony Wood ranked 58 in the OUTstanding 100 LGBT+ Executives List published by Yahoo Finance UK.
Tony Wood, UK Health Leader, Mercer Marsh Benefits has once again been named in the OUTstanding 100 LGBT+ Executives List. Mr Wood is listed no 58 in this year’s ranking compiled by INvolve, a not-for-profit professional network for LGBT executives and their allies, in collaboration with Yahoo Finance UK. The ranking recognises the actions of executives working to make the workplace more welcoming for LGBT individuals. Tony was nominated by colleagues in Mercer’s LGBTA employee network for his commitment to action and advocacy around diversity and inclusion.

As executive sponsor of Mercer’s LGBT+ Pride group in the UK, Tony has played a vital role in facilitating an inclusive culture at Mercer. He has led many initiatives including revising HR policies to support trans employees, lobbying Mercer and Marsh Health Trusts to include trans healthcare benefits, and driving the development of a guide for Mercer employees on the issues associated with expatriate assignments for LGBT+ colleagues. He has organised successful IDAHOT (International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia & Biphobia) days across Mercer offices nationally.

How the list was compiled:
All of the 2019 Role Models were nominated by peers and colleagues. Nominations were then reviewed by OUTstanding’s judging panel, consisting of: Lord Browne, Executive Chairman, L1 Energy; Ashok Vaswani, Global Consumer and Payments Head, Barclays; Harriet Green, CEO & Chairman, Asia Pac, IBM; Dawn Airey, Independent Director, Grosvenor Estates GBI; Suki Sandhu OBE, Founder & CEO, INvolve & Audeliss; Lianna Brinded, Head of Yahoo Finance UK.
Each person was scored on their impact on LGBT+ inclusion inside and outside the workplace, their business achievements, and the seniority and influence of their role. Everyone featured in the lists has given their explicit permission to be included.
For the 100 LGBT+ Executives, 50 Ally Executives and 30 LGBT+ Public Sector Executives, the nominee’s seniority and influence was taken into consideration. They must also be visibly out, or a vocal ally, actively working to create an environment where LGBT+ people can comfortably bring their best professional selves to work. It was important that people were working towards this goal over and above their day job, which made it hard for the judges to consider diversity and inclusion professionals, however deserving.
