Our graduate pathway programme is a great opportunity to develop your skills across our health, wealth and career business to develop a strong consulting career where you can deliver solutions that have a real impact on the future of major organisations and individuals every day.

Graduate Programme

Have you got what it takes to join our people shaped business?  All applications need to have:

  • Strong analytical skills whilst seeing the big picture of what we do – having attention to detail whilst understanding the wider context of the work being done

Our pathway programme provides the framework for our graduates to develop a broad range of skills and knowledge within a number of challenging and diverse placements during the first two years. Our graduate pathway programme offers three key streams: Health, Wealth and Career.

In each stream you will get the opportunity to complete a number of diverse placements within your home location and you will complete a project within each of the streams which will give you the best possible grounding as you develop your career at Mercer.

Our culture at Mercer ensures that all new employees are engaged, entrusted and empowered so they feel part of company, have pride in working for Mercer and feel like they make a difference. We offer a very supportive environment; you will be assigned a buddy and have a manager supporting you throughout the two year programme.  You’ll also get to share experiences with other graduates along the way building an excellent network.

We will fully fund a number of different professional study pathways including Actuarial Qualifications, CIPD, CFA programme and PMI and all our graduates within the Wealth stream will complete the Investment Management Certificate within the first three months of joining.

We offer broad ranging careers and therefore we are looking for candidates from a range of academic backgrounds.

We fully fund a number of different professional study pathways including the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries qualification (IFoA) , Chartered Institute of Personnel Development (CIPD) programme, Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) qualification, Charted Financial Analyst (CFA) programme and the Pensions Management Institute qualifications (PMI). All our graduates within the Wealth stream will complete the Investment Management Certificate (IMC) within the first three months of joining.

Internships

If you’re in your penultimate year of study, why not get a taste of working for a multinational consulting firm by applying for our internship programme? Each summer we offer internships across many of our UK locations in Talent, Retirement and Investments.

The eight week programme runs from the beginning of July to the end of August. Throughout the programme you will get involved in client projects, be assigned a buddy to make sure you settle in quickly and help with day-to-day work queries. In addition, you will have an experienced consultant acting as your supervisor to assist you while you develop and learn over the course of the internship. You will also have the opportunity to work together with other interns in various offices and different divisions on projects designed to enhance your intern experience and industry knowledge.

Placements

To help you gain early insight into Mercer, we may have opportunities for you to join us on a placement programme in some of our UK offices. For example, we offer 15-month placements within our Retirement Service Centre. Starting in June, these are a great opportunity for you to learn more about the world of pensions as well as fully understand the role of a Retirement Analyst by gaining experience in a supportive team environment. You’ll get exposure to global projects and have the opportunity to understand how the work you do impacts on Mercer and our clients.

Apprenticeships

Mercer Apprenticeships don’t just offer a job, we offer a career. With a Mercer Apprenticeship you will receive training and support to allow you to learn on the job, develop your technical expertise and obtain universally recognised and respected industry qualifications. Our Apprenticeship offers a competitive salary and great benefits – all whilst working for a global company that really invests in its employees.

The Early Careers Graduate Rotation Scheme

 

Example Wealth Rotation Programme

In Wealth, compulsory placements must be taken in DB Funding & Benefits and DB Investment but these placements can occur at any time throughout the two year programme. Individuals for the remaining two placements can therefore choose between DB Strategic Solutions, DC&FW and Delegated Solutions depending on their desired Career path. It would be possible to complete two placements in DB Funding & Benefits and/or DB Investments, however they would need to work in different teams.

Graduates have the option to complete one of their optional placements in areas outside Wealth, for example in Mercer Services, Global Business Services, Client Management, Health or Career.

To support the graduates, Career paths will be mapped out for the graduates recommending the appropriate rotations and exam route that should be followed. The Health and Career assignments will run parallel to the placements.
